Unresponsive Screen / Black Touch Screen Frozen
Symptoms
- - Touch inputs ignored entirely
- - Screen stays completely black despite haptics/sounds
- - Digital Crown button presses do not wake display
Common Causes
Step-by-Step Fix
If your high-end Apple Watch Ultra 2 touch screen freezes, becomes unresponsive, or shows a persistent black screen while responding to haptic crown clicks, follow these forced reboot and screen recalibration processes.
Perform Emergency Forced Reset
Hold the flat side button and the Digital Crown together. Hold them firmly for up to 15 seconds. If the screen display remains black, wait until you feel a sudden single strong haptic click, followed by the bright white Apple boot logo.
If the back sensor lights are green but screen remains dark, the display driver is crashed.
Deactivate Screen Curtain Screen Lockout
If your watch vibrates and reads screen items aloud, VoiceOver screen-curtain may be enabled. To turn off Screen Curtain, triple-press the Digital Crown or open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone, go to Accessibility > VoiceOver and toggle VoiceOver and Screen Curtain off.
